Born in Bsharreh in 1883, Gibran is a famous Lebanese philosophical essayist, novelist, mystic poet and artist. His best known work is The Prophet, a book of 26 poetic essays, which has been translated into 20 languages. Gibran lived most of his life in Boston and New York, but intended to retire to Bcharre and specified in his will that he wanted to be buried there when he died in 1931. The museum was formerly a hermitage and monastery purchased by Gibran. He is entombed there, and the museum houses many of his paintings and drawings and personal effects.
