| Der Al Moukhalles
Founded in 1711on the spot where a miracle is said to have occurred, the Greek Catholic monastery known as Deir El Mokhalless which means the Monastery of the Holy Savior overlooks fragrant orchards and wooded hills. The Monastery possesses a beautiful old Church and a collection of icons, manuscripts and religious objects, as well as a small shop in the convent, where you can find typical Lebanese products.
The story goes that in the 18th century some pilgrims were following Aftimos Saifi, the bishop of Tyre and Sidon. Upon reaching the top of a hill, the group was greeted by villages, all of whom carried arms. A gun went off and shot one of the pilgrims with the hit person crying, “Oh, savior of the world.” Shortly thereafter, the pilgrim got up and walked away, completely healed. The bishop ordered a monastery to be built on this site. The monastery has played a big role in education, having established a school for the children of Palestinian refugees. It is also known for its collection of ancient books, manuscripts and iconostasis.
