The "Kalamos" of Greco-Roman times and the "Calmont" of the Crusaders is now called Al Qalamoun. Several decades ago metal workers from Tripoli's traditional Souk an-Nahhassine moved to El Qalamoun, and that’s how it became a center for brass craft. The main road is lined with small workshops and showrooms where brass bowls, candlesticks and other objects are hammered out in the old traditionnal way.
