| Sarafand
The village of Sarafand, or Sarepta, is located 15 km south of Sidon. In the Old Testament, it is stated that the Prophet Elijah visited Sarafand. Moreover, Sarafand is famous for being the site of two miracles done by Jesus Christ. . According to the royal annals of the Assyrian king Sanherib, Sarepta was one of the fortified cities of Phoenician Sidon. The biblical narrative speaking of the prophet Elijah's visit to Sarepta confirms this information when it says that Sarepta is a "Sidonian town".
The site occupies a low tell on the seashore at Ras al-Qantara, situated just below and to the north of the modern village of Sarafand. In ancient times, Sarafand was also known for its blown glass, which it still produced today.
