On the sandy coastline located south of Tyre, some of the best preserved abundant fresh water on the immediate back beach creates a varied rich habitat ideal for the existence of numerous interesting ecosystems. Moreover, tourists can explore a wilderness area where migratory birds rest on their passage to distant places and where Mediterranean sea turtles lay their eggs on a yearly basis. Located back southern Lebanon, Coast Nature Reserve comprises some best preserved sandy coastline Lebanon. Recognized as “wetlands international importance” by Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, reserve’s artesian are source fresh water. The wells date to times – period which Tyre was one most important city states along Phoenician coast. Besides the many species of plants and marsh birds that flourish in this delicate environment, the reserve is a nesting site for the endangered Loggerhead and Green Sea Turtles. Visitors will enjoy exploring this coastal reserve on foot, by bicycle, or with snorkels and diving equipment.
